Group Personal Training in Colchester

Hey, I’m Jon. I’ve been working in this industry for a long time, in a variety of roles for some awesome operators. My last role was Head of Gym across all David Lloyd Clubs. I’m the co-owner of Thrive Gyms. I spent last year travelling the world with my wife Sarah and two kids Stanley and Alice. We’ve done some pretty epic things together including shark diving and paragliding in South Africa, scuba diving as a family at the Barrier Reef in Australia, and seeing Lions in the wild in Namibia. I love watching or playing sports and enjoying life. I like to spend my time dancing, smiling and laughing.

Over the past couple of years, I’ve lost some people really close to me and for reasons that hurt. In 2021, I lost a very close friend through suicide and an ex-fiance to Covid. When faced with these losses it gives you the opportunity to stop and realise that life is precious and that you only live once. So, when we returned from travelling, I decided to start Thrive Gyms with Vicky and fulfill our passion for running our own business and helping more people, move and feel better, more often.

Hi, I’m Vicky, I’ve been in the industry for nearly 20 years. After struggling with my own self-confidence as a youngster and putting on weight, I joined a gym. I was petrified, but after some time I realised that exercise wasn’t just about what you look like, but how you feel. This inspired me to want to help others feel better about themselves. I’ve worked at some brilliant gyms, my last employed role was at David Lloyd as a Regional Fitness Manager. I decided to return to personal training after having my son George. I knew I wanted to help more people, move better and I wanted to create a gym where people could come and exercise and feel part of a community. So myself and Jon started Thrive Gyms.

There have been a couple of key turning points that have shaped the last few years of my life. While at a close friends Dad’s funeral, the poem “how do you live your dash” was read and it cemented my decision to be brave and start Thrive. The second was my Mum, aka my best friend, suffering a stroke. I always valued the benefits of exercise, but if my Mum hadn’t looked after her health, she might not have survived. It also makes me value how lucky we are to just be able to move.

I really believe that exercise can have a hugely positive impact on how we feel about ourselves, not just physically but mentally. I want to support and coach you to move and feel better, get results and even have fun along the way.

Hey, I’m Connor. Having completed a maths degree in 2018 and work in accountancy in London and then Ipswich, it became clear that sitting at a desk all day, everyday wasn’t for me. My gym sessions became the highlight of my day, so I started my fitness qualifications and took a big step to make a career change to something I love.

Training is something I’ve always enjoyed. Playing football since a young age, and then finding the gym whilst at uni. I originally started out training for bodybuilding but became bored of my workouts and felt I wasn’t seeing the progress I wanted. This made me change to a crossfit gym and since then I haven’t looked back. My mindset switched from what I looked like to how I moved, performed and felt. I love the buzz of getting stronger, moving better and being able to do new things. This is what I want to help others do for themselves. To be the strongest and fittest version of themselves.

Hey, I’m Mark. I’ve always been active from a very young age having grown up with 2 competitive brothers and a sister. I studied sport throughout my education. Mainly, because it was a subject I enjoyed and was heavily involved in. After leaving University without really knowing exactly what I wanted to do, I decided to work at a Summer Camp in New York running their soccer program (football to me and you!) This gave me the opportunity to travel and explore America over 2 Summers. New Orleans and San Francisco being among my favourite states!

I qualified as a personal trainer because I wanted to do a job I enjoyed and could do anywhere. I soon realised the true impact I could have on an individual’s life by improving their physical and mental wellbeing. This in turn, gave me a real sense of purpose. I’ve now been working in the industry for over 5 years.

When I’m not in the gym, you’ll find me either out exploring a new city or doing some kind of fitness related activity. During lockdown I took up hiking! Last year I climbed Ben Nevis with a group of clients and I recently completed Snowdon with my partner.

Hey, I’m Jack. I’ve always been active and played a lot of rugby when I was younger. As I got older I was introduced to strength and conditioning to support this, and soon swapped the cold rugby pitch for the warm gym permanently!
I started out in personal training following my own passion for training, but have stayed because I learned that I love people, and have now been in the industry for 7 years.

In the gym my passion is powerlifting, competing to a national standard, and winning a British title in 2019. I thrive on sharing this with others, and have coached clients, once regular gym goers to national and international success alongside spending hours working with newcomers, introducing them to the gym environment for the first time and teaching them to lift safely and to move and feel better.

I love getting to know people from all walks of life, I’m pretty chatty and I will always ask you what you’ve got for dinner. I believe the gym should be a safe space for anyone and everyone, and I’m always quick to remind you that all us trainers are real people just like you!
